Today my son turned 15. Instead of getting him a card at the store, I decided to scan in one of my favorite pictures of him with our first dog, Fred. You will notice that the picture is a bit discolored and there seems to be a white something on Fred's left eye. This is due to the fact that the picture, which lives in a frame on my desk here at home, was practically glued to the glass from the frame. So, when I tried to remove it to scan, the picture ripped and I aborted my plan to remove it from the glass.
This might not seem all that significant yet alas, it is to me. It is just another reminder that my children are getting older and as they do... their pictures that are on hard copy are starting to deteriorate. With everything so electronic now this generation will have the rare picture of themselves that is faded or discolor or ripped. Or, if it is... there will most often always be the electronic version to fall back on. It is just a different world. And... well.... it isn't.
