Touch the Soul

This song touches my soul and makes me tear up every time...

IN CHRIST ALONE

In Christ alone my hope is found

He is my Light my strength my song
This Cornerstone this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love what depths of peace
When fears are stilled when strivings cease
My Comforter my all in all,
here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless Babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Til on that cross as Jesus died,
the wrath of God was satisfied
For ev'ry sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body   lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious  day
Up from the grave  He   rose again
And as He stands in victory,
sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am  His  and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life no fear in death,
this is the pow'r of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny
No pow'r of hell no scheme of man
Can ever  pluck  me  from His hand,
'til He returns or calls me home,
here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand

Seven

Seven isn't my number.   My parents separated when I was 7 years old.  I started into anorexic hell when I was in the 7th grade.  When I run on a workday morning, I have to be home by 7:00 AM to shower and hustle my booty to work which means a really early wake up time most of the time. The 7 hours of sleep I usually get is sometimes just not enough for an 8+ hour snoozer like me.  We don't usually have everyone home and eating dinner until 7 PM most nights. Most importantly in my strange mind,  7 is an odd number and I really just don't like odd numbers. Half way is an improper fraction and I really don't like those!

I do like running 7:00 minute miles around the track or as a base speed for a 5K or 10K run.  It is doable and gets the heart rate up without killing my legs...well... maybe in a 10K it would.  Kill the legs, that is. Sleeping in until 7 AM on a rare school day morning is a treat that I like to give myself once and awhile.  I love the 7th day of the week because we go to church as a family and I don't go into work (usually). You know what?  I am really starting to think that 7 is my number.  To top it all off, I finally ran my best marathon on my 7th try at the age of 47 and my PR even has a 7 in it! Let's hear it for 7 shall we?!

New Years

McKee Family - 2013

Abbey has been swimming with the Santa Barbara Swim Club and spending a lot of time in the Los Baños pool this past summer and fall.  Not only is she getting really fit, she has begun to have an athlete’s attitude about exercise and health that is way cool.  She is also quite the musical theater fan and spends a lot of her free time listening to show tunes, so it was very exciting for her to make it into La Colina Jr. High’s 2014 spring show, Oklahoma!

Jack built himself a computer this summer that he spends a lot of time on when he isn’t riding his bike around with friends or has his nose in a book.  As soon as we get his uniform in order, he will get to the rank of Star in the Boy Scouts.  He had another great    season of water polo out at DPHS this fall and endured the DPHS swim team last spring.

Kevin took most of his 60 DPHS AVID students on a college tour to the San Francisco Bay Area last spring that was a wild success and has been very busy this fall helping them all apply for college. This December he hit double nickels and now is an official old fart who refuses to use his senior citizen discounts.

I, Jana, still run miles and miles mostly in the dark of morning and am getting better about not doing school work into the dark of night. I have a new mom-taxi route to Los Baños pool this year too that is much more fun now that the beater van is no more and I am instead driving in Subaru style. This December, I ran a 3:27:11 in the CIM Marathon.  Throughout that whole race I kept thinking”How am I doing this?”” I am really doing this!“ Yes, I did it!  I am still smiling.

Winnie, our 3 year old forever-puppy, has turned into a good pooch who sleeps her way through the day if she is run good and hard in the morning.
