Grappling with what to do about the NY Marathon still.
Here is a little history. After the Boston Marathon in 2010, I was stoked on the whole marathon idea. I had run Boston, had a good time, and had a good time doing it. So, like most people (like me) I was on the hunt for the next quest. Kevin had his sights on going to NY. I had the QT. Nov.2011, I was in before I even really realized I was!
In the interim, I ran one of my slowest and most painful marathons in Eugene in May of 2011. I struggled all during training with a left leg that just didn't want to work and a right leg that was showing anger signs. My muscular imbalance was kicked into overdrive when my left foot came down with a bad case of PF. I taped and loaded up with Advil the morning of Eugene but my left foot felt like it snapped in two about 10 miles into the race due to plantar fasciitis and I ended up hopping and hobbling the next 16 miles on my already very angry right leg.
I came home with my tail between my legs and vowed to get stronger before attempting to train for a marathon again. New York would have to wait until 2012. I basically took a year off of any serious training and I got the core strong. This last summer I started to train seriously again. I was relaxed, yet totally focused. The left leg seemed to be in the game and the right hip only tightened up just enough to keep me in check. I was ready for NY. This time it wasn't ready for me.
Fast forward a week and you get the clip of me finishing SBIM just seconds off my 2010 Boston time. It was not a bad consolation prize, but it wasn't a 3:30 and it wasn't New York.
Part of me wants to say... nope.... let it go. Fall marathons are hard for me as a teacher and mother. Fall is a busy busy time of year. I could use my SBIM time to qualify and go back to Boston next spring instead. But....
In 3 months I am going to head up to good ole SLO and run a marathon with my best college running buddy. I guess I will take it from there.
