On February 12, 2016 we had the Cupid Run at Adams School. I had run 12 miles in Hope Ranch that Thursday morning, so I wasn't looking to work very hard as the kids ran around trying to grab the flag I had to offer for the easy takens for the first few rounds.
Until.... something got in my bonnet. I had a mass of 3rd graders suddenly chasing me. I was running at top speed... or so I felt. I was out running them all. I was elated. I was having fun. I was running faster.... I was winning. But, then I wasn't. My (very expensive and highly effective) prescription sunglasses were on the ground as was I. I had caught myself with my right side. My eye, elbow, wrist, palms, and knee got slapped on the blacktop. Ugh...or should should I say Ouch!? I wanted to say F&#%!
It all ended fine. The sunglasses survived. No bones were broken. My pants were not ripped. No children were hurt. It did suck that my knee was messed up and it set back my Boston training for about 2 weeks with on again off again running... but with a lot of RICE and Advil, it eventually went back to normal. My run today was GREAT with no pain and no need for ice when I was done. But man oh man.... if I could turn back the clock! That'll teach me!
From now on it is the going to go down in the history of my life as the Stupid Run. The day I was stupid. Only fools run at their top speed when surrounded by small children trying to tag them from all angles.
Lesson learned.
