Some more able bodied people in our running community are the taking stupid 100 mile by January 7th challenge. I am not all that much smarter really at all. I am, however, smart enough to know that my bio-mechanically less inclined body would not be able to accomplish this stupid feat without potential of a serious and/or long term injury. I did like the idea of a challenge though, so I made my own. It is running that 100 miles alright, but giving myself ten days rather than just seven to do it. With school starting up on Monday, it will be a challenge...but it won't brake me. I feel smart for that. So far anyway. I might be singing a different tune when El Niño hits.

9.14 miles
I signed up for the Resolution Day 5K ad 10K races without thinking that the dinner party we were going to on New Years Eve might keep me out a bit later than I am used to. Add to the fact that I had programmed my body clock to wake and function no earlier than 9 AM during the winter break and well.... I didn't make it to the races, but I did have a FABULOUS run down town and then over to the west side and through the Hidden Valley neighborhood all by my little old self. I just put the earbuds in and ran to my own drummer. I felt good and relaxed and at no point wanted the run to be over. In fact, I would have run further if I hadn't had a time limit due to my mom taxi job for Abbey's birthday hike.

14.01 miles
The second day of the new year I again slept in way too late to get up and run with SBRR. I guess I was just not ready to come out of hibernation mode yet. Gosh, my pillow is just so snuggly and warm. (OOps.... sorry for the side track there.) I set out for my run at about noon with earbuds in and no firm destination. My run again took me down town and then to Hidden Valley, but this time I ran a bit further down and ended up in a field that led me to the bottom of the hill on Veronica Springs. No worry. I was in NO hurry as I chugged slowly up and then braced myself for that steep little hill back down to Torino to finish my loop. By the time I made it around to Modoc again I was mentally done and tired, but I managed to make some little loops in the hood to get the miles up to the 14 I was desiring for the day. Not as epic of a run as the day before, but not bad either. I was happy to be done.

11.01 miles
After a glorious stretch class up at Pulse on the Mesa, I drove my car to the Mesa Park and ran out 5 and back 5 along the coast... very slowly.... very relaxed.... very windy. I was very grateful for 45 minutes of stretch before. It was a good run. I even tagged an extra even slower mile on to the end as a prize to bank for the work week.
Now I am up to 34.16 miles with 65.83 to go by next Sunday. I think I can do it. :)
January 4-9
I ended up finishing it up in the rain and early hours before work. I had to get it done in 9 days due to being out of town on the 10th.
I did it!!!!!! Yippeeeeeee! Yay me!
