I Could Just Kick Myself

When you have known someone for over 26 years it is OK to forget that you were in their wedding.... right?  Well.... I didn't forget, I just forgot at that very moment as JoDee was (re)introducing me to Jim and Adrienne yesterday afternoon.

"And, you remember, Jim. You were both in our wedding, " JoDee said.

Nope, nada, nothing.... I had momentarily forgotten, but I didn't forget.  Of course, I didn't fake my brain blip very well.  I am sure I gave a puzzled look and said something stupid.  I can't lie.   Of course, it all came rushing back within minutes of sticking my foot in my mouth.    I do recall lots of things.  I just hadn't properly put everything in the right little slots of my life before heading north to SLO yesterday afternoon.  This is OK though.  You see, I really haven't changed all that much in the last 26 years and neither has JoDee.  She gets me and loves me... always has. Yes.  I was there.  Yes, I did meet Jim and Adrienne. I have proof.

Jim and Adrienne?

JoDee and Me
Now, you might be thinking I want to kick myself over the above mentioned.  This is not the case at all.    If I kicked myself every time I honestly forgot something I would be black and blue all over.  There is no need for that.  I am hard on myself enough as it is.  No, what I could kick myself over is the mere fact that I didn't dig up and bring with me to SLO my 1987-1993 photo albums.   The laughs we would have had as the memories of her sophomore/junior and my junior/senior years in college unfolded before our eyes! And even better the post college bridal showers and weddings of Sigma Kappas.  Crazy memories that would have been so fun.

Here I will share with you only a fraction of the pictures I have from this time in our lives.

In early October 1987, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity from Fresno State had a group of guys that rode their bikes from Fresno to Atascadero where a group of Sigma Kappa Sorority girls from Cal Poly met them and had what was called an exchange (aka: party) at the Sandman? Hotel in SLO.

At this party, JoDee met Ken.   I was there.  I remember!  I also knew and know that the next day JoDee and I got up and ran our first ever half marathon.  I have no clue how fast we ran.  We were young and probably didn't even wear a watch.  I do recall thinking at the time that 13 miles was a hell of a long way to run.

There is no picture even to show us at the start or the finish that day in October, 1987.  We will have to settle for the before and after shots taken close to 26 years later starting and finishing our second half marathon together.  We haven't changed much at all.... Well, maybe for the better.  Love ya JoDee!
6:20AM San Luis Obispo Half Marathon about to start!
Holding hands with my life long friend!  Love you JoDee!
How about we ride our bikes to Lompoc and back.  I can go buy a bike and be ready to go tomorrow right after school.
