So funny. At the DPHS awards deal last night Mrs.Kaplan remarked that she knew that a young athlete would be a life long runner. She didn't say that about any other runner up there last night. Hmmmm.... It sounded so familiar. I too was told by my high school coach, Pam Cox, when I was a senior in high school way back in 1984 that I would be a life long runner.
CRAZY! Here I am!
I am a testament to what a little bit of athletic ability and a whole lot of passion and years and years of practice can do. I am going to get faster... maybe. If I don't, I don't really care. That is the beauty of it all. I am a life long runner come hell or high water. But, that doesn't mean I am a natural born runner. I have had to work hard at it.... very hard.
As you will see, my marathon resume cuts down on my time as experience and strength leads the way. The OC in 2007, the Long Beach in 2008, and Eugene in 2011 were races run while injured and are the ones I feel I gained my badge of tenacity that I hold close to my heart. The rest were lessons learned in carbo loading, hydrating, and simply relaxing into the run. I have come a long way. I hope I can keep it up. If I can't, oh well.... It is a nice ride anyway.
