Built My House

About 10 years ago I showed up to train for the Santa Barbara Half Marathon with Rusty Snow.  It was a difficult initiation, to say the least. From that time I have held on to a gem that Rusty said to me. I am not sure of the exact words he used, but the message was that it takes years to build your "house".

For ten years I worked at it. I struggled. I made mistakes. I sacrificed my beloved sleep. I had fun. I often wanted to give up and never gave up hope. I grew as a person. I found my runner and I built my house. Gosh it wasn't easy. It still isn't, and it isn't a perfect house.  It is lopsided and tight, but it is strong and it is mine…

When I crossed that line at CIM in Sacramento in 3:27:11 at the end of 2013 only to turn around and do it again in Boston 2014.... Wow!  I arrived! I moved in and claimed the house I had worked so hard to build.

I have other houses I have been working on redecorating the second half of 2014 but I am running and enjoying my house as a runner regardless. That is why I have been so distant but not gone.

All is well.
